Кстати о еде и к вопросу о том, насколько язык определяет, как мы ощущаем реальность. К четырем основным вкусам пищи, которые знают все европейцы - помимо кислого/сладкого/соленого/горького - азиаты причисляют еще один, который в английском иногда называется редким словом savory, а в русском аналога просто нет. Официальное название - umami, или умами, заимствование из японского. Физиологически мы его все отлично чувствуем, это MSG, а слова такого нету. Зато в русском есть слово “вяжет” (например, хурма), а в английском нет!
Сколько же неожиданного может вытащить случайное словосочетание.
Например:

Они же все здоровые, до 80-90 доживают, только синие. Мне с девушками возиться некогда, а говорящая лягушка - это прикольно!

Амазон мне все время что-то советует. Вы покупаете это? тогда вас может заинтересовать то! И вот, первый раз им действительно удалось меня заинтересовать. The Bears of Blue River - книжка американского автора, написана в начале 20го века о жизни пионеров в штате Индиана. Один из отзывов: In 2001 my father age 82 mentioned this book as the only one he remembered his father reading to him as a young boy. Книга про мальчика, который любит охотиться, а больше всего любит убивать медведей. Зацепила она меня, однако, даже не содержанием (которое ИМХО само по себе примечательно), а оформлением обложки:
Кстати о медведях - вот злободневная статья в жанре журналистского расследования, не очень правда свежая (2007). Представляет собой образец того как надо подавать подобный материал, и даже не столько текстом, сколько иллюстрациями. Художественная сторона, конечно, вдохновлена АкуАку, но что ж теперь, лубков не рисовать…
Я тут шарился по аржловеру, и между мультиками про зайчиков и белочек обнаружил вот такой очерк из жизни сексуальных меньшинств:

P.S. Ну и, так сказать, обратное: Journey of Mankind: The Peopling of the World - отличная антропологическая анимация о появлении и распространении человека. Интересно, что для заселения Америки даются новые даты; из моих (сравнительно новых) учебников я был уверен что сейчас общепринятая датировка - ~15000 лет назад, а тут почти в два раза раньше, и длинная сноска о новых данных.

Всем, наверное, баян, а мне откровение: Малая Земля рассказал вчера о сказке Чуковского, которая была написана в 1942м, запрещена в ‘44м и с тех пор не печаталась. Сказка называется Одолеем Бармалея, про ВОВ:
